Fun videos to watch with your child:
Math Activities to do with your child:
*Play " Guess My Number"
- I am thinking of an even number. It is greater than 17 and less than 19? What number am I thinking?
- I am thinking of a number. It has 2 tens and 3 ones. What number am I thinking?
- I am thinking of a number. It has 1 ten and 15 ones. What number am I thinking?
*Say 5 numbers 2, 12, 22, 32, 42. Ask your child to tell you the next 5 numbers
*Please count with your child daily from any given number. :-) Your child has been working on counting to 120 by tens. Let them show you! :-)
*skip count by tens /skip count by tens from any given number up to 120 or beyond.
*Have your child pick a two-digit number less than 20 and have them tell you what is 10 more or 10 less. For those of you who want a challenge, have them pick a two-digit number greater than 20. Have a discussion with your child. Here are some questions you can ask. What is one more and one less? Is it even or odd? How many tens does your number have? Can you tell me the expanded form? What digit is in the one place, etc.
* 10 minutes of Dreambox - Dreambox can be challenging. Please do not tell your child the answer. You are more than welcome to guide them and discuss the problem as they work to find an answer. The program is designed to give your child problems based on their level. Many times, children who are given the answers, become upset because the questions become too hard and they are not ready for such a challenging level.
Spelling/Phonics - Next week we will begin learning how silent e can change a short vowel to a long vowel. We will concentrate on the long /a/ sound with silent e.
Reading - We will learn about a new reading strategy called "Flippy Dolphin". Flippy Dolphin helps reminds us that sometimes we have to flip a short vowel to a long vowel when reading.
**Don't forget to log on to the Kids A-Z (Raz Kids) app. This is a great app that promotes fluency and comprehension!
Writing - We will start a new unit of writing as we dive into our "how to" writing unit. The "how to" writing unit helps us understand how important sequential events are when telling a story.
Social Studies - We will identify rules and laws that establish order, provide security, and manage conflict. We will explain state and national patriotic symbols, including the United States and Texas flags, the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, and the Alamo.
Science - We will demonstrate and record the ways that objects can move such as in a straight line, zig zag, up and down, back and forth, round and round, and fast and slow.
- School begins at 7:40. If your child arrives after 7:40 they will need to go to the office and receive a tardy pass. Please make sure your child arrives in the building before 7:40 each day.
- Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day. Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening. Thank you!!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Email is the best way to get in touch with your child's teacher:
- Mrs. Sork: msork@coppellisd.com (math)
- Mrs. Vincenzo: lvincenzo@coppellisd.com (language arts)
- Mrs. McCullough: jmccullough@coppellisd.com (science and social studies0
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Celebrations & Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Cooper taught 1A how to make a volcano erupt!! He took it one step further and taught us how to make it erupt slowly.....add a little dish soap!! I had never seen this experiment!!! Way to go!!!
