A note from our technology department:

Apple has released 16.3.1 which corrects the iCloud issues.
Once a device is updated, Users will need to verify all the information they want syncing with iCloud is enabled.
This can be done by going to Settings > click on the iCloud account (top left) > iCloud > toggle on/Enable anything that is needed.
It is highly recommended that all users install this update.  Especially those that are running 16.3.1

Look at what we will be learning next week:

Math - Learners will continue to identify pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters by their value and describe the relationships among them.  We will practice counting a group of coins.

Fun videos to watch with your child:

Count by tens from any number - https://www.yout-ube.com/watch?v=ncgNKmESFLY

Math Activities to do with your child at home

  • Ask your child what are the attributes of a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.  Challenge your child and ask them what are the attributes of a half dollar.
  • Give your child a handful of coins.  Ask your child to tell you the value of the coins.
  • Generate story problems about family members.  For example, Mom went to the store and bought some cookies.  She ate half a dozen cookies in the car.  Now she has 10 cookies.  How many cookies did mom have in the beginning?  :-)
  • Practice counting to 120 by ones from any given number.
  • Practice counting to 120 by tens from any given number.
  • Practice counting to 120 by fives.
  • Practice counting to 120 by twos.
  • DREAMBOX - 15 minutes daily.  Please do not tell your child the answers.  The program is designed to help them at their level.
Language Arts

Spelling/Grammar/Phonics:  Next week we will talk about the glued sounds in spelling:  /ing/ /ang/ /ong/ /ung/ and /ink/ /ank/ /onk/ /unk/.  We will also look at contractions and the rules that tell us how to make a contraction.

Writing:  We are starting a new writing unit on Persuasive Writing (being able to persuade the reader to do something or believe what we believe).  We will look at some persuasive writing pieces and talk about the attributes that a persuasive writing piece has.

Reading:   I continue to be amazed at how well everyone is reading.  I am in the process of assessing reading levels to all of first grade.

**The district has decided not to renew the license for the EPIC app on learner iPads.   This app will no longer be available for use.

**Don't forget to let your child log on to the Kids A-Z (Raz-Kids) app at home.  The "Level Up" part of the app is excellent for listening, reading, and answering comprehension questions.  There are lots of great non-fiction books in their Raz-Kids libraries.

Social Studies  -  We will identify examples of people wanting more than they can have.

Science  -  We will demonstrate that air is all around us and observe that wind is moving air.

TCE Parents and Families – Yearbook Photos Needed!

TCE PTO is looking for your help in gathering photos for the Town Center Yearbook! We set up an easy process for you to share your images from different campus or classroom events. We would love for all families to contribute their images so we can make sure we have equal representation from all grade levels and classrooms! Please use the following step-by-step directions document or video to create a Lifetouch account and begin uploading your images now. Thank you!

Volunteer Background Check Form - REQUIRED TO VOLUNTEER

If you anticipate volunteering on campus at all this year, please fill it out. A new one must be completed each school year.

  • School begins at 7:40.  If your child arrives after 7:40 they will need to go to the office and receive a tardy pass.  Please make sure your child arrives in the building before 7:40 each day.
  • Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day.  Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening.  Thank you!!
  • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior.  Many times, the children forget.  If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
  • Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.

Email is the best way to get in touch with your child's teacher:

  • Mrs. Sork:  msork@coppellisd.com  (math)
  • Mrs. Vincenzo:  lvincenzo@coppellisd.com  (language arts)
  • Mrs. McCullough: jmccullough@coppellisd.com (science and social studies)

Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

Celebrations & Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.

If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.

School Lunches

Who can visit my child for lunch?

Every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.

If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district eschool system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

For the last two years, free and reduced meals were provided for all Texas public school children.  Beginning September 29th, families must complete an application to qualify for free or reduced-priced meals. For more information, check out the Coppell ISD Child Nutrition website.  Complete your School Meal Application here.  Allow up to ten days to process your application

Reading:   In reading we will continue to have conversations about non-fiction books while using stategies to self-monitor and correct our mistakes when reading.
